The perfect tour with all of life’s pleasures.
A five day circuit covering 1,500 kilometres on a route going through the entire Basque Country and the Western Pyrenees, both on the Spanish and the French side (Aquitaine).
A fabulous adventure where you only need to worry about enjoying the beauty of the countryside and the delicious food on each route. Each day will be different and more exciting than the previous one.
As we leave San Sebastian, we will ride past the cliffs along the Bay of Biscay, we will visit Bilbao, the Alava area of the Rioja region, with its spectacular vineyards and wine cellars. The origins of our language and cultures. The Huesca area, the best ports in the Pyrenees and, lastly, the French Basque coast. A perfect blend of road, cuisine and culture, in that order and in their right proportion.
Leave San Sebastian along the Cantabrian coast heading for Bilbao. We will ride through some attractive fishing villages in Guipuzcoa (Zarauz, Guetaria, Zumaia) and in Vizcaya (Lekeitio, Mundaka, Bermeo). We will then ride inland and, after riding through Guernica and Durango, we will come to Vitoria and, finally, the Rioja Alavesa region, where we will have a sleep after enjoying its fantastic cuisine and famous wines.
After the fantastic route on the first day, we will start the day in La Rioja, near Santo Domingo de la Calzada and the San Millán de la Cogolla Monastery, where the Spanish language began. Then we will head for the Rivera de Navarra where, once we have crossed the River Ebro, we will visit the towns of Olite and Javier to spend the night in the Aragonese village of Sos del Rey, a beautiful medieval village where King Fernando el Católico was born.
A beautiful day that will take us through the south side of the Pyrenees. We will visit the San Juan de la Peña Monastery near Jaca and will ride through the Ordesa National Park and Monte Perdido. We will spend the night in an attractive town in the Huesca Pyrenees where, once again, will be able to enjoy the tasty local cuisine.
We will ride inland along the north side of the Pyrenees, on the French side. The day will be almost entirely devoted to riding through the beautiful Pyrenees ports. We will visit the famous Canfranc station to end the day on the Cuenca de Pamplona plain. We will be able to ride through the cobbled streets and squares of this town and, before a well-earned rest, we will visit one of the temples of Navarra cuisine.
The last day, which will take us back to our starting point – San Sebastian – but not without first riding along the Pilgrim’s Road to Santiago and through the largest beech forest in Europe – the Irati Forest – on a route that will take us along the banks of the French Basque Coast. Biarritz, St. Jean de Luz, Hendaya, Fuenterrabía and, finally, San Sebastian.
